ART and DESIGN
at Oughtibridge Primary School
Art and Design has a very high profile at Oughtibridge Primary School and pervades all aspects of the curriculum through visual, tactile and sensory experiences.
The scheme of work introduces, develops and broadens the understanding of colour, form, shape, texture and pattern through a wide range of media and techniques, studying original works of art as stimuli. This is enhanced greatly through the use of artists in residence and visiting specialists who develop the skills and knowledge of staff and pupils alike.
We actively encourage and support creativity through our cross-curricular topics developing the skills required of the National Curriculum in a meaningful and ‘hands-on’ manner, bringing topics alive for the children. Learning for a purpose is also encouraged through entries into local and national design competitions.
The school takes an active role in the Sheffield Children’s Festival each year encouraging both performance and display. Display work in the classrooms and open areas of school is of the highest standard and acts as a visual stimulus and a celebration of pupil creativity and expression.
In 2005 the school gained the coveted Arts Council of Great Britain Silver Artsmark Award in recognition of its work and commitment to the Creative Arts. We have two after school Art Clubs and three other clubs promoting the Creative Arts.
Our annual Creative Arts Week is hugely popular with the children and allows even greater freedom for expression and creativity. In 2007 we have explored the theme of 'India' which produced some wonderfully vibrant and exciting artwork and culminated in a whole school dance performance led by the Annapurna Dance Company.
