History
At Oughtibridge School, History is taught through a range of topics that meet National Curriculum requirements. Cross-curricular links are made between History and other subjects, particularly Literacy, ICT, Art and Design and Technology.
The children develop a sense of identity by learning about their place in the local community before extending to learn about the development of Britain, Europe and the world. We draw on the history of the local area to provide resources for history where possible. We incorporated a study of the history of steelworks in Sheffield with a visit to Kelham Island Museum.
We have exciting history days and visits where children have first hand experience of what life was like in the past discovering mummies in Egyptian tombs in the school woods; opening an Ancient Egyptian market and café for parents; visiting Eden Camp, Bishops House and Brodsworth Hall.
Visits to local museums and exhibitions help us with our enquiries and visitors are invited in to share their experiences and allow the children to question, reflect and analyse stories of first hand experience.
