Musical Performance by 'Fidaddle'
Children and staff were mesmerised and enthralled by the musical talents of professional musicians ‘Fidaddle!’ as they were taken on a musical journey of songs and sounds from around the world. The two performers, Oli Wilson-Dickson and Luke Carver Goss, who arrange music for orchestras, rock bands, musicals and theatres throughout the UK and also perform for the BBC and Warner International thrilled the audience from start to finish by their musicianship and theatrical delivery.
There were plenty of opportunities for the children to join in and they even created their own song during the performance. The children were riveted throughout and especially by the finale, ‘Oli played his violin whilst riding the unicycle accompanied by Luke on the guitar and didgeridoo! It was absolutely fantastic! The performance was a showcase for all types of music and was a huge inspiration for the many talented young musicians and singers we have in school’.
At Oughtibridge Primary School, musical skills are taught regularly in weekly lessons following the requirements of the National Curriculum. The varied nature of music is also appreciated through links to literature, art, science, maths, ICT and dance. Children listen to a wide range of music, past and present and from different cultures, in assembly times.
We are also part of the Wider Opportunities in Music Scheme whereby Y4 children are given the opportunity to learn to play an instrument through weekly whole class lessons.
Children have many opportunities to learn to play instruments within school. Visiting music specialists from the Sheffield Music Service teach a variety of instruments to children on a group basis (for which there is a charge). Weekly singing sessions are held for both Foundation/Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and there is a choir in Key Stage 2. The children are encouraged to perform for the school, parents and the wider community.
