St Andrews Lower Basic in The Gambia

Oughtibridge Primary School is linked with a school in The Gambia. Our link school is called St Andrews Lower Basic. It is situated in the Berending area of The Gambia. The links are now well established with many letters, posters and gifts being exchanged. One of our sets of grandparents have even visited the school in 2009 and met the staff and children bringing back photographs for us to see.

I want to continue to share with you some of the photographs and presentations that the schools have exchanged.

This year we held ‘Bring and Buy’ sales in our classrooms and raised almost £400 to help equip the kitchen at St Andrew’s so all the children can now have a cooked lunch at school. We also learnt how to play some games which the children in the Gambia taught us and we grew sunflowers at the same time as our friends and watched them grow together.

I am sure our links will continue to grow and strengthen in the coming years.
