St Andrews Lower Basic in The Gambia

Oughtibridge Primary School is linked with a school in The Gambia. Our link school is called St Andrews Lower Basic. It is situated in the Berending area of The Gambia. The links are now well established with many letters, posters and gifts being exchanged. One of our sets of grandparents have even visited the school and met the staff and children bringing back photographs for us to see.

I wanted to share with you some of the photographs and presentations that the schools have exchanged.

The children raised almost £400 from a whole school cake sale to buy many essentials for the school e.g. paper and pencils and even a handwriting scheme.

The children have really enjoyed communicating with one another and discovering what a school in another part of the world is like. The Y3/4 children raised funds through a Fairtrade Coffee Morning to buy some playground equipment. The next fundraising event is to buy bicycles.

I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy Lisa, Anna and Jessica’s Powerpoint presentation on lunchtimes at Oughtibridge Primary School. They have done an excellent job in representing our school.

I am sure our links will grow and strengthen in the coming years.
