Well done!
Thank you to Miss Lowey for ensuring our Basketball team secured a place in the final at the English Institute of Sport last night. They played very well against some very tough teams. The scores were 4-4 against Abbeydale, 14-0 against Emmaus and unfortunately they lost 8-2 against St Maries. Mrs Lofthouse thought that the team were outstanding and were a credit to the school.
English Week was a huge success and a thoroughly enjoyable occasion. The children looked amazing dressed in their wonderful Colourful Characters costumes. Well done Mums and Dads, you are brilliant at sorting out such inventive costumes. I was thrilled to see The Gruffalo, The Rainbow Fish, Paddington Bear and many, many more characters from well known and much loved books. Not to be outdone by the children the staff had made a real effort – Mary Poppins dropped in along with many characters from Alice in Wonderland. The poets were really good, they were very funny and entertaining as well as motivating and inspiring the children in their writing.
The Book Fair was very popular and raised £654 for school to spend on books. Thank you to Mrs Dent for organising English Week.
If you are interested in buying a copy of one of the David Harmer Poetry books which he used in school on Monday please send £4.99 per book in an envelope with your child’s name, class and choice of book (either The Truth about Teachers or Pirate Poems) by no later than Friday 12th March.
I am very pleased to say that the ‘Maths Day’ film is now on the school’s website – this can be found in the Pupil’s Work section. I am sure you will enjoy seeing what the children got up to on this busy and exciting curriculum day.
We would like to remind you that the total amount of £315 for the Y6 PGL residential needs to be paid by Thursday 1st April.
The Y3 children will need to take a pair of shorts and a t-shirt with them to their swimming lesson on Thursday. This will also be their last lesson.
We are selling Sports Relief Socks in sizes 9-12, 12.5-3.5 and 4-7 for £2 per pair. All the money goes to the Sports Relief Charity. If you would like to purchase any socks please send the money in an envelope with your child’s name, class and sock size required.
Praise postcards have been sent out this week to Anna Muirhead and Kate Spencer who both produced a super powerpoint presentation on slavery. Also Elodie Adey received a postcard because she has written a fantastic extended story all by herself.
If you would like to place a Scholastic or Puffin Book order please ensure your orders are received by the school office by no later than Monday 8th March.
Foundation Stage are in need of spare clothes including pants and socks. If you do have any spare or have borrowed clothes at home please could you send them into school.
First Call is now well established and we would like to remind you that if your child is absent from school to telephone the school office prior to 9am to report the absence. We would request that you do this each day of absence so we know not to expect your child in school.
SOS would like to thank everyone who is using their fundraising website www.easyfundraising.org.uk/sossheffield They have just received a cheque for £42.22 with more to come. Please remember if you are purchasing anything, including your holidays, to use the website and SOS will receive a % of the purchase – some holiday companies offer 2% commission!
A Grey/Stone age 8 Dare2Be coat has been lost. If your child has taken this home by mistake please could it be returned as soon as possible. We have also had several reports of shoes, PE kits etc which seem to have gone missing. Could we ask that you check items at home to ensure that your child hasn’t brought somebody else’s items home with them. Please ensure that your child’s name is clearly marked in all clothing to make it easier for us to identify the owner and return.
We would like to remind you that holiday requests will not be authorised during the following periods of the two weeks proceeding these dates:< br/>
KS1 - 19th April to 14th May
KS2 - 10th - 14th May
