NEWSLETTER FOR 4TH DECEMBER 2006
GENERAL INFORMATION
Tweak of the Week for week commencing 4th December is ´Encourage each other´.
This year the staff are participating in a scheme to make a donation to St Luke’s Hospice in lieu of sending Christmas Cards to each other. Any families who wish to join us in any way are very welcome to participate. Donations should be sent to school in an envelope marked ‘St Luke’s Hospice’. If you wish to enclose a Christmas card, we would be happy to display it in one of the public areas around school.
The Bags to School collection is on Wednesday morning at 9am, please send all your bags on the Wednesday morning or Tuesday after school only and leave them near the walkway. Please do not send them in before this as there is no where to store them during school hours. Thank you.
SOS would like to thank the volunteers and everybody who came to the Christmas Market last Saturday – a total of £26.40 was raised and will be added to the funds to buy new school books.
Could we please ask you to remind your children to take home their water bottles each night to be washed and then returned to school the following day.
We have received a special offer from the Book People where they have an additional 12 best selling titles with 20% off available to order on line for home delivery before Christmas. If you would like to place an order please contact Mandy in the Coumes office.
The Christmas Grotto in the Peace Gardens will open this Saturday until 24th December. Go along and meet Father Christmas and also Rudolph.
Thank you to all who have sent in the Christmas Child boxes, a total of 66 boxes have been collected.
You may have noticed a number of girls walking around with named headbands on. Should you wish to have one personalised for your child or as a gift please send £1.50 per hairband to the school office in an envelope marked SOS Hairbands with the name and which class/child it is to be sent to. All proceeds will go to SOS funds. Thank you
We have a number of children who we have been advised suffer from asthma but we have no medication for them in school. Could you please ensure that the school office has the correct medication for your child.
Children can send their Christmas cards to school from Monday 4th. Please ensure that the child’s full name and class are detailed on the envelope. Postboxes are in both buildings and deliveries will be done to the classrooms each day.
Governor profile – Sandra Brearley
I have been a Parent Governor for two years and have an 8 year old child in school. For the last 17 years I have been working as a Careers Office, although now the Government calls us Personal Advisors. Most of my experience is with the 14-18 year old age group, sometimes working with very difficult and disturbed young people. I am not sure how I got from that, to thinking that being a governor was a logical next step. But at least I have had a lot of experience of how schools work, as well as experience of working with teachers and non-teaching professionals such as social workers, learning mentors, educational psychologists, educational welfare officers etc.
Given the amount of work I have done with special needs pupils in my job, my family’s experience of special needs children and my own educational background, I was delighted to be given the role of Governor for Special Educational Needs recently. Delighted was the word I used at the time, but you may wish to ask me in a few months if this still applies!
There are just a few tickets left for the Tuesday afternoons performance of Tinsel and Teatowels. If you need any additional tickets please send in the money on Monday and they will be issued on a first come, first saved basis.
If anybody would like to order any uniform please ensure your order is in school by Friday 8th so that your order will arrive before the Christmas break.
