NEWSLETTER FOR WEEK BEGINNING
Monday 9th November 2009

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Thunk this Week is – ‘All cars have five wheels’

Class with the best attendance last week was – Y3/4SW
Raffle ticket winner last week was – Jodie Steer
Well done!

The Y3/4 visit to Thackray Museum in Leeds is on Friday 13th November. Thank you to all the parents who have offered their help on the day. Unfortunately we have limited seats and can only take 3 parents per class and these parents have now been notified. The children will all need a packed lunch, sensible shoes and they may bring a small amount of pocket money.

If you use the Alford Avenue/Footgate Close approach to school I hope you agree that the footpath into school is much improved.

The ‘sail’ shelter on the top junior playground is due to be completed on Thursday 12th November.

The winners from the Poetry Competition ‘Off by Heart’ can be seen performing their poems on the school website – click on the pupils’ work section.

Monday 9th November is our Science Day on ‘Change’. The children will enjoy Magna’s performance of The Kitchen Sink Show during the morning, and we look forward to welcoming you into school on Monday afternoon between 1.15 and 2.15pm, if you are able to ‘pop in’ to see what the children are up to in their Science work.

Once again I have to draw your attention to the inconsiderate and illegal parking that is occurring on Naylor Road. This is upsetting, frustrating and annoying for the local residents and a huge health and safety issue for the children in school as evident on Monday morning when none of the emergency services would have been able to reach the school due to badly parked cars restricting access for large vehicles. Please ensure you are parked legally.

With the very changeable weather at the moment could you please ensure you’re your child brings a coat and a waterproof to school each day.

The Morrison’s Lets Grow scheme has now finished so could we please ask that any vouchers please be brought into school as soon as possible so that we can count them – we have over 9000 vouchers so far!

Mrs Susan Nuttall has been appointed to work in the Y5/6 team from January in order to teach the Y5 and Y6 children separately in English and Maths. This will also mean smaller class sizes. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Nuttall to Oughtibridge Primary School.

The leaflets regarding the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Appeal have been sent home this week. Any boxes which we donate will be going to Eastern European countries and we have been asked to inform you to not include any chocolate, playing cards or Harry Potter themed items. Please ensure any shoe boxes are brought to school by Friday 20th November.

Congratulations to Jordan and Danielle Crane who won the SOS Lottery Draw this month and have received a cheque for £30.

SOS are holding their AGM on Wednesday at 7pm in the Don Building Staff Room and are looking for somebody to shadow the current Treasurer until July next year with a view to taking on the post after the summer holidays. If you are interested in this post please come along to the meeting – everyone is welcome!

Thank you to everyone who took part in the SOS Halloween Quiz. The winner is Zoe Riordan who has won £9.

SOS have been kindly donated a jar of sweets and will be running a ‘Guess how many sweets are in the jar’ competition. If you would like your child to have a chance of winning the sweets please send them with 20p. Guesses will be collected by the School Council between Monday and Thursday next week with the winner being announced in Friday’s assembly.

We have recently sent out both the Puffin and Schoolink leaflets and would like any orders from either leaflet be brought to the school office by Wednesday 11th November.

The children in Foundation Stage had a visit from South Yorkshire Ambulance Service this week and would like to say thank you to Mrs Tingle and her colleagues for showing the children the ambulance and teaching them how to bandage each other!
