NEWSLETTER FOR WEEK BEGINNING
Monday 12th October 2009

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Thunk this Week is – ‘What if we had three feet?’

Class with the best attendance last week was – Y2NH
Well done!

Thank you to the parents of Foundation Stage who attended the Reading Workshop. We hope you found it helpful and informative. Many thanks to Mrs Little and Mrs Cadman for running the event.

All the children in school were entertained by the Momo Theatre Company on Monday. They were treated to a performance of Car Less – encouraging the children to walk to school – this was done in a very humorous way and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Very many thanks for your support in our Make, Bake ‘n’ Cake week. We had hundreds of delicious cakes and biscuits which the children enjoyed. Thank you for the recipes and photographs which will be sent to our link classes at St Andrews in The Gambia. So far we raised £203.55 which will help to provide St Andrew’s children with basic educational equipment.

You may have noticed new playground signs going up on the junior playground – Mr Sampson has a tough job putting them all up as we have so many. Thanks to SOS who have funded these educational signs which brighten up the playgrounds.

Don’t forget that it is the KS1 trip to Eureka on Tuesday 13th October. Children must be at school for 8.15am so that they can leave promptly at 8.30am. They will need to bring a packed lunch.

Thank you to all the parents who supported us with the infant ‘What I want to be when I grow up’ day. We had policemen, vets, nurses, doctors, a breakdancer, a spaceman and many, many more. The children looked fabulous.

The children (with your fantastic support) have done a brilliant job in learning poems ‘Off by Heart’. I have been treated to many a rendition throughout the week which I have loved. Well done to all the children who took part. Our winners are Samuel Wheeler (FSCM), Emily Antcliffe (Y1CL), Sophie Kean (Y1/2GH), Jacob Winton and Olivia Fothergill (Y2NH), Robin Moorby (Y3/4JL), Alexander Bourne and Sarah Bush (Y3/4BW), Harry Vincent (Y3/4SW), Rosie Winton (Y5/6FM), Rosie Perkins (Y5/6CD) and Benjamin Cutts (Y5/6MD). The winners performed in Assembly today and did an excellent job!

SOS have sent out their Christmas Pudding order letter this week. If you would like to purchase either a Christmas or delicious Chocolate pudding please return your orders by Friday 23rd October. If your child would like to design the label to go on the puddings the entries need to be returned to school by Friday 16th October with 50p to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

SOS would like to say thank you to the Oughtibridge Gala Committee who have made a donation of £75 to their funds.

A reminder that it is the Y5 Thornbridge Residential next week. Children will need to come dressed as evacuees and bring a packed lunch on the day of their departure. Any medicines need to be brought with the children with the correct medical form completed. If your child has a torch they will need to bring it with them.

The school photographs have been sent home this week. Although there is a facility to place orders on-line the school would prefer that any orders are placed through us so that we can record what orders have been received and ensure that they are received by the photographer. Could all orders be sent to school no later than Monday 19th October and any cheques need making payable to ‘e s p’. The family portraits which were taken on the Friday evening and Saturday morning will follow shortly.

If you haven’t already returned your Data Collection sheets could you please send them to the school office as soon as possible. It is important that we have this up to date information on our computer system.

A reminder that the deadline for the Y6 pupils secondary school applications is Friday 16th October.

We are experiencing discrepancies with the amount of school dinners that children are ordering. Could you please ensure that you tell your children whether they are having school dinners, sandwiches or Grab a Bag.

The KS2 Healthy Tuckshop will be running next week on Tuesday through to Friday.

Could we please remind children in Miss Higgins class that toys should not be brought into school, but she is very happy to see anything that the children have done that is relevant to the topic they are studying on their show days which are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Miss Mettam’s class are looking for any clean sheets or blankets (for making dens), clean warm clothes or woolly hats and an old steering wheel! If you are able to help with any of these items please let us know.

CLASS NEWS AND INFORMATION:

Miss Lowey’s class will be taken by Mrs Fearn on Monday to Thursday and Mrs Jackson on Friday.

Mrs Hunt and Mrs Buttery will be covering the Y6 classes whilst the Y5s are at Thornbridge.
