NEWSLETTER FOR 11th SEPTEMBER 2006
GENERAL INFORMATION
Tweak of the Week for week commencing Monday 17th July is ´MAKE SOMEONE WELCOME´.
Please may we take this opportunity to confirm the procedures regarding medical absence from school. If your child needs to be absent for any kind of medical reason, including assessments, please complete and return the medical absence request form available from the parent’s filing cabinet in Coumes reception. A confirmation slip and/or an absence slip will be returned to your child for you to keep with you during the appointment in the event of meeting a Truancy Patrol Officer. If you are collecting your child during lesson time, please sign them out of the book at either Reception. When your child returns to school they should report to either Reception where the office staff will give them a registration mark. Pupils will be given a LATE mark if they return part-way through the day - this means that they are marked as PRESENT. If the child misses an entire session (all morning, or all afternoon) then they will be given a MEDICAL mark, which means they are recorded as an AUTHORISED ABSENCE. We believe this method rewards those children who are able to return after their appointments with the opportunity to receive a 100% attendance award even though they are receiving medical treatment.
As stated in the diary dates letter – individual school photographs are being taken on Thursday 21st September. Please could you ensure that children come to school dressed in accordance with the school dress code. There will be an opportunity for sibling groups to have their pictures taken together. Thank you.
Please accept our apologies – there are a couple of uniform orders from last term, as well as those received this week which will be delayed. This is due to our supplier being let down with stock deliveries and we hope the situation will be rectified by next Friday.
There are a couple of places available for Y3,4 and 5 pupils wishing to start brass, violin, clarinet or flute lessons. If you would be interested in receiving more information, please contact Miss Wilkinson (Y5/6 teacher) in writing on Monday 11th September. Places will be allocated at the discretion of the peripatetic music teachers from Sheffield Music Service. Pupils who applied unsuccessfully last year will be given priority. Details about guitar lessons will follow shortly!
Flute and Clarinet lessons for existing pupils will begin on Wednesday 13th September. Would those pupils please report to the music room at 1.00pm to collect their timetables for this term. Thank you.
SOS has been successful in receiving an ‘Awards For All’ lottery grant for £4,965. This will be used to provide music equipment, stage lighting and recording equipment for the whole school to use. SOS is holding their first meeting of this year on Wednesday 13th September at 7.00pm in the Don Building staff room. All are welcome to attend.
CLASS NEWS AND INFORMATION:
Could we appeal for help with our KS2 library. We have an amount of ‘sorting out’ needed, as well as a number of new books to be labelled. If there is anyone out there who could spare about half a day to work in the Library, we would be most grateful. Please contact Miss Firth (Y5/6) if you can help. Thank you.
If parents are attending the Initial Meetings for Y1/2 Parents, please note that the meeting starts at 5.00pm in the Coumes Hall and there will be refreshments available beforehand.
