NEWSLETTER FOR 26th JUNE 2006

GENERAL INFORMATION

Tweak of the Week for week commencing Monday 26th June is ´Always Look On The Bright Side´

Our first aid staff are still having to deal with children with blisters and sore areas on their feet, usually caused by them not wearing socks under their shoes and sandals. Could you please ensure your child wears socks at all times in school, as earlier requested.

Miss Wilkinson will be taking the choir and some of our musicians to Orchard Square on Tuesday 27th July between 12.30-1.30pm, to perform as part of the Sheffield Children’s Festival.

African Arts Week was a great success, the pupils thoroughly enjoyed all their activities and the highlight was a performance of an African story in music and dance on Friday afternoon.

We have a number of jewellery items in the Coumes Office lost property tray. If you have lost any such items recently, please call in and check that they are not yours.

SOS has counted the sponsored marathon donations and are delighted to announce that a massive total of over £4,500 has been raised – half going to Children with Leukaemia and half to school funds. Thank you very much to everyone who gave so generously.

Many thanks to all the children who adopted a plant and brought it back to school on Wednesday. The plants made a wonderful display in the Coumes Hall, before being taken to the village centre for planting. Many of them will be planted in the tubs, baskets and mangers prepared for them around the buildings and green areas of the village. Look out for them on Gala Day!! The plants were judged by the organisers and the results were as follows:- First Prizes - Thomas Frith, Sam Harden and Molly Winton. Second Prizes - Luke Green, Isabelle Harrison, Stanley Ward, Bradley Wills, Robert Harden and Amelia Leake. Thank you also to the children’s families for supporting this project.

Unfortunately, SOS has had to cancel the Pie and Pea Quiz Night as there were insufficient tickets sold. This has had to be decided so far in advance as arrangements had to be made with Cook for the catering.

Well done to all our pupils who took part in the Gala Sports night and Chase on Wednesday 14th June (see pictures, click here). It was lovely to see so many Oughtibridge School children (and adults) joining in the fun. Thank you to you all for supporting the event – see you at the Gala on Saturday – the parade leaves Birks Wood Drive at noon – gala opens 12.30pm.

In conjunction with the Y6s who are taking their Cycling Proficiency Award, we have been given a booklet about Cycling in Sheffield for Summer 2006. Please contact Coumes office if you would like to see one – events include family rides, bike ‘doctors’ and lots more besides.

A Gala raffle ticket has been found in school – if you are missing yours, please contact Coumes Office.
