Once again Oughtibridge will be staging Maypole Dancing at part of the May Day celebrations. If any children wish to go along, with their parents, to participate, it will be taking place at the Millenium Garden between 1-4pm on Saturday 6th May.
We have been advised that Haggstones Road will be closed from its junction with Haggstones Drive to its junction with Boggard Lane (this is actually the section of Haggstones Road from just beyond Birks Wood Drive to the z-bend approaching Worrall). There will be a diversion in place. The roadworks begin on 6th May, and should last about a week.
Worrall Male Voice Choir will be performing at Zion United Reform Church, Oughtibridge on Friday 19th May at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £5.00 for adults and £2.50 for children, available from 2862175 or 2863264.
There is a ‘May Day Fun Day’ in Coronation Park on Monday 1st May. Starting at 11.30am, attractions include a bouncy castle, stalls, face painting, head and shoulder massages, raffles and lots more. Village for a Village are keen to hear from any volunteers who could help on the day, or bake cakes for the cake stall, donate bottle/jars for the tombola or second hand books. Please contact Maureen on 2864111 if you can help.
Macmillan Cancer Support invites you to help them to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. There is an 8-mile walk around Carsington Water on Sunday 21st May, the Yorkshire 3-Peaks climb on Saturday 10th June, 5 Parks Bike Ride, Derby on Sunday 25th June and Morecombe Bay Walk on Saturday 8th July. All children have taken home a plant this week. The organisers of Oughtibridge In Bloom would like to thank you for taking care of this plant for them and send the following message. ‘Your little plant is just like a baby, it needs you to look after it so it can grow big and strong. There are prizes for the best kept plants, so please follow the instructions carefully:-
- Put the plant pot on a saucer or in a container and water from the bottom.
- Do not place the pot in a very bright window or too near a hot radiator as your little plant will get too hot.
- Do not let the compost dry out - make sure that the compost is slightly damp at all times, but be careful not to overdo it as too much water will drown your plant.
- Put your plant outside after the frosts have gone - this is usually early June - to get the plant ready for planting outside.
- If possible, please give a liquid feed to the plant once a week.
Please bring your plant back to school on Wednesday 21st June for judging. All plants will then be planted out around the village on 25th June, ready for Yorkshire In Bloom judging in July.’
