S.O.S - Supporters of Oughtibridge School

Who are S.O.S?

We are a small group of parents who organise fundraising events to raise money to try and improve the everyday life of our children. We are always looking for new parents to try to help us increase our fundraising activities and help our children enjoy their life at their local school.

What do we do and when?

Autumn Fayre (October 2007) –this event raised over £1100 and enabled all children (and parents) who attended to have fun at some of the games provided, such as the Lucky Dip, Face Painting, Hook a Duck, Football Shootout, Roll a Dice Game plus many more activities.

Ladies Night (March 2007) – this event ran for a second year and was well attended by ladies who wanted some pampering. We raised over £300 and everyone who went really enjoyed the occasion.

Leukemia Sponsored Marathon (June 2007) – again another event we ran for the second year which all the children really look forward to. A fantastic £3800 was raised which was split between S.O.S. and Children with Leukemia.

Lottery Funding – following the £5000 award a couple of years ago we received another £5000 in August 2006 to provide musical instruments and dance equipment for the school. We are also currently applying for a further Lottery Grant of £5000.

There are a number of other small events and jobs we do throughout the year, including Bags to School, Christmas Pudding Sales, Raffles and maintenance of the School Foundation garden.

Plans for fundraising this year are:

What we did with the funds raised in 2006/2007

The majority of the money raised last year has gone towards books for all classes. £5000 was given to the school in June 2007 which they matched with a further £5000. This has enabled teachers to buy a great selection of new books for the school – an opportunity they have not had for a long time! We have also given a further £500 to support a Seaside Day in July 2007 for the whole of KS1 and Foundation children.

What we have planned for the funds raised in 2007/2008

We have paid for the entertainment for the Christmas parties for all the children in school which has cost £400. We are also going to help provide equipment for a new gardening club which will start in the new year. The club will enable the children to learn about how plants grow by planting seeds and caring for the school garden. They will have an opportunity to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers which all the school will be able to learn more about.

We are also hoping to help provide some new benches for the playgrounds, photo printers for each building and help to improve PE resources within school.
