School Garden Club
2008 has seen the development of the school garden and the setting up of the Garden Club.
The children were first consulted by the School Council about what they would like to have and came up with many exciting and interesting ideas. SOS very kindly donated money and so we quickly put in paths and raised beds and were ready to go!
The children wanted a mixture of fruit, insect-friendly flowers and vegetables. Once a week,
children from Garden Club and each of the classes have sown seeds, pricked them out, planted then
on and watered them all in.
They have been so full of enthusiasm, have enjoyed all their different
jobs whilst learning about growth processes at the same time. With the addition of signs and
decorations, the garden has become a colourful and interesting place to be.
Next year we hope to make the garden more of a haven for animals and insects. We want to raise money for a bird table, feeders and bee and ladybird nesting boxes. We also need a seating area where the children can sit, work and enjoy the calm atmosphere.
There’s plenty to look forward to!
